Affectionately known as “Yiyine”—is a Licensed Practical Nurse and the founder of Hope for a Village, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering communities in Côtes-de-Fer, Haiti, where she was born and raised.
Hope for a Village was founded in 2010 on the belief that faith, compassion, and community-driven action can bring lasting change. Since then, the organization has grown through strong local partnerships—delivering clean water, health care, education, and hope to vulnerable families in Côtes-de-Fer and beyond.
From organizing mobile clinics to serving as interim administrator at the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Center for Health, Missy has remained actively involved on the ground. Her 16+ years of experience in nursing—ranging from geriatrics and surgery to pediatrics and home health—continues to shape the organization’s approach to care and service.
One of Hope for a Village’s cornerstone programs is the Grandma Martha’s Hygiene Kits for Girls Project. This initiative provides reusable menstrual kits and puberty education, helping girls stay in school with confidence and dignity.
Missy believes lasting change is built through collaboration. Her vision is to inspire local leadership, encourage the Cotes-de-Fer diaspora to join together to help equip young people to reinvest in their communities—creating a cycle of hope and resilience that grows from within.
“Serving others brings me joy, but serving my people brings me purpose. I don’t have all the answers—but I know love, and that’s where I begin.”
– Mystraine Onoh, Founder
